Chalk should be erased with a soft cloth or proprietary duster. Should any residue remain on the surface, the chalkboard surface should be wiped with a clean damp soft cloth used solely for this purpose. Do not use kitchen dish-cloths which may contain grease residues that may smear the surface.
'Texta' brand (or any other reputable brand) wet-wipe Chalk Markers may be used on these paint-surfaced chalkboards but please be aware that removal of markings left on the board for more than a few hours will leave a faint shadow and also require a fair amount of elbow grease. If you are likely to find this shadowing unacceptable, use of chalkboard markers is not recommended. For those wanting to use markers, we do make boards using chalkboard vinyl applied to the surface. If you are wanting chalkboard vinyl surfacing, please phone or send an enquiry email and we will be very happy to price this for you.
Oiled frames, particularly those used outside, require some preventative maintenance to keep them looking at their best. Every few months apply with a soft cloth any good quality wood oil to oiled surfaces. A suitable product is Drydens Wood Oil. This is available in a low VOC option.Take care to not apply any oil to the chalkboard surface. The latter should be masked (using paper and masking tape) during oiling.
